THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE RADAR REVOLUTION

Marcel is Co-Founder and Managing Director at fiveD, responsible for Operations and Project Execution. Driven by a passion for turning new radar concepts into real-world impact, he received his master’s degree with honors from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and led the Automotive Radar & Virtual Radar Worlds research group at its Institute of Microwaves and Photonics. His PhD focused on high-resolution radar imaging, grid mapping, and radar networks. Marcel has industry experience at Siemens in Germany and the U.S., has authored 35+ publications, and is named as inventor on over 10 patents.

Michael is Co-Founder and Managing Director at fiveD, responsible for Strategy and Finance. Previously, he led the Remote Sensing & Radar Based Ice Exploration research group at the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics at FAU Erlangen. In his PhD, he developed radar-based exploration strategies for investigating subsurface structures on icy moons such as Enceladus and Europa, gaining extensive experience in radar systems, antenna technology, and signal processing. Industry positions at Siemens and Mercedes-Benz complement his scientific expertise with practical application experience.

Lars is Co-Founder of fiveD and leads the company’s IT and software architecture. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, with a focus on computer architecture, high-performance computing, and operating systems. Prior to founding fiveD, Lars worked as a research associate at the Chairs of Computer Architecture and the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics at FAU, where he developed hardware-accelerated radar algorithms and network architectures for sensor communication. Lars combines deep expertise in radar algorithms, software systems, and IT infrastructure. for the development of fiveD’s radar simulation suite.

Christian is Co-Founder of fiveD and leads the technical development of the company. He holds a Ph.D. from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he specialized in radar simulation and its applications in deep learning-based signal processing. Prior to his doctoral studies, Christian developed scientific software for computed tomography at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, gaining extensive experience in professional software engineering. His background combines deep expertise in physically based radar simulation with robust software development skills.
